HSSS | Tips to Upgrade Yourself | Have you ever come to the point in your life where you realize that in the middle of your circumstances, the only way to move forward is to become a better you? When this reality pushes you to make a deliberate choice, that’s when you’ll likely start to change. But this journey of self-improvement is definitely not for the hesitant nor the fainthearted because it entails hard work and perseverance.

The first step in making this decision to improve is to get clear about your goals and your reasons for them so that you can align every aspect of your life to this pursuit. To do this, examine your life from every viewpoint to identify problem spots that require fixing or an upgrade. These are likely the areas where you are most weak. Although it is difficult to acknowledge one’s weaknesses, it is only when you can honestly face and accept them that will you be prepared to make improvements. For people who choose to be blind to their weak points, no amount of self-improvement strategies will be effective.

When you have determined the weaknesses that you wish to improve on, work to cultivate the right mindset.  The mind is very powerful, and you may be holding on to wrong assumptions and beliefs about yourself since you were young. Self-improvement may be a frustrating ordeal if you have limiting beliefs about yourself, which is usually the case with your weaknesses. You must get rid of all the mistaken perceptions inside of you that undermine your self-worth and optimism.

A powerful and efficient step in transforming your negative perceptions into positive ones is by changing your surroundings, particularly the people you hang out with the most. The age-old proverb, “Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are” speaks the truth– you cannot expect to be more than the average of those you spend the most time with. Your perspective in life and towards yourself has been strongly influenced by the people who surround you every day.  So if you want to see a substantial change in yourself in overcoming your limiting beliefs, frequent yourself with optimistic, supportive people.

As you work on upgrading yourself, it would be good to assess your development.  Regularly do self-evaluations to track your progress.  Set key indicators and make a system. Mark your milestones and celebrate breakthroughs. Enjoy every step, and try not to be too hard on yourself.  Focusing too much on your mistakes will only bring you down and not forward. Be consistent, and before long, the upgraded you will be actualized.
